We’ve begun the process of tracking a new album for Toronto based singer Caroline Martin-Rowe. The album contains a variety of arrangements performed by some of the city’s best, not to mention the beautiful voice of Caroline herself. Final mixes should be complete after the christmas holidays and will hopefully be released soon after.

Over the last month and a half we’ve been working on a new album for local Toronto-based composer and singer Donna Greenberg. Along with the producer Jordan Klapman we’ve been having a great time collaborating with many excellent musicians and arrangers. From the intimate trio pieces to big band arrangements (by Jon Seiger) and lush string arrangements (by Drew Jurecka), the album will contain many brand new pieces of music with sincere and powerful performances. It is on it’s way to mastering and I’m looking forward to the record getting out there.

Just finished another film here titled ‘In Between Life’, directed by the talented Sharon Lewis. This time both elements: music and post audio were created in house. The music required a very sparse score and was created to support the delicate story developed by the director. Audio post was created with my partner in audio post production, Joe Gasparik. This film required an equally subtle approach in terms of sound design and Joe came up with some great elements to accentuate the character of the story which we mixed at the mksoundworks studio.

Just finished a post mix for an upcoming short film titled ‘Junior’ with my post production audio teammate Joe Gasparik. This one was a lot of fun with big moments like gunshots, helicopters, police sirens as well as more subtle creative interpretations for flashback sequences and a man’s last moment with his thoughts. All sounds was recorded, designed and mixed in house. More information to be posted soon once the film is released. More to come about this film on this site as well.

I’ve recently been working on a musical with the talented composer/writer Jet Matas. The last little while I’ve been writing and recording full arrangements for all pieces in the musical, tracking the vocal recordings, and assembling the first stage of the recording for the project. There is more exciting news to come for this project but everything has been coming along well and it has been a lot of fun working with everyone involved. This is the cover of a recently finished a demo EP mix for an artist going by the name Jedrek. I just had to post this particular album cover since the creative spirit of the artist spilled over into these limited edition runs of hand made albums for the first release. Painted, stencilled, cut and stamped by hand. Cool stuff. Reminds me of being a kid and it was great to see this kind of thing again!

Local Toronto artists Kae Sun just released a new EP titled ‘Outside the barcode’. This was a really fun project to work with a very sincere and genuinely talented artists. Along with co producer Josh Sadlier-Brown, we aimed for a stripped down acoustic approach to this record. Using a different environment was just as important as the sonic approach we were shooting for so we headed out the beautiful big live room at Escarpment Sound studio in Acton, Ontario to record everything live to analog tape. Mixing was done by Josh and myself at the m:k:soundworks production space and further using the same aesthetic approach we started with…including printing mixes back to tape and even creating some bizarre interlude soundscapes with our hands messing with the reels. Thanks to everyone for their help and input along the way!

Not many details to share here yet since it’s not quite released yet...but here we are at the final surround mix for another short film. The musical genre is a little different (from traditional composition) on this one which was really exciting and enjoyable. It was great to have an outlet for some of my own personal songwriting here too. I’m sure I’ll post more details and samples soon.

Another project wrapping for ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’. This time it’s a full length album in the mastering stages at Carvalho Mastering. Thanks to Tim Branton for another great job.
